(DONNA) – Saturday’s match against Donna High and Brownsville Pace was a huge game in which third place was on the line.
Both teams knew what had to be done in order to solidify their spot in District 32-5A and were ready to leave everything on the court.
After clinching a playoff spot the week before, Donna High was fired up and had a ton of intensity going in while their ultimate goal was to capture the number three spot.
And in the end, that’s exactly what they did as the Bravettes secured that very spot thanks to a three-set sweep over the Viqueens.
“This was a huge win for us. Not only because we captured the third spot, but because we lost the first time around to Pace and were determined to not let that happen again,” said Melanie Arenas. “Now we can just focus on the next game against Brownsville Vets and we want nothing more than to give them their first nasty loss.”
The Bravettes started the opening set strong as they were talking to each other and the hustle game looked incredible.
Arenas played a key role for Donna as she was killing the ball every time she got her hands on it and singlehandedly helped them grab a 25-17 win.
The Bravettes confidence was extremely high going into the second set as they jumped out to an early lead.
Unfortunately, some costly mistakes had them on their toes which allowed Pace to mount a comeback.
But Donna High wasn’t about to go down without a fight as they came back strong as a whole and took the set to take a 2-0 lead.
After that, the Bravettes knew this was their game and felt that third place spot was in reach.
As a result, they swept Pace to seal the deal.
