(BROWNSVILLE) – Both Donna High and Brownsville Pace knew the importance of Friday night’s district contest.
After all, the winning team would see their slim playoff chances remain alive in 32-5A.
After trailing 20-0 midway through the second quarter, the Redskins fought and clawed their way back while cutting their lead to six.
Joshua Mata scored the first touchdown for Donna High as his 23-yard run cut the Vikings lead to 20-7 with 3:27 left in the second quarter.
Then Hector Guerrero’s 2-yard run inched Donna High closer to Pace as they trimmed the lead to 20-14 left in the third quarter.
However, Pace was able to weather the storm and ended up grabbing a much needed 20-14 win.
With the win, the Vikings improve to 3-3 in district play and will now prepare for Lopez in the regular season finale on Saturday. Pace can punch their ticket to the playoffs with a win over Lopez who enters the contest at 4-2.
As for Donna High, they dropped to 2-4 in 32-5A and end their season this coming Thursday night by welcoming in Brownsville Veterans.
