(DONNA) – On such a festive night, the Donna High Redskins wanted nothing more than to give their fans a “w”.
Donna High entered their regular season finale with a lot to play for, even though their playoff hopes were gone.
First and foremost, the Redskins were celebrating Homecoming Weekend.
Second of all, they wanted to give their seniors a going out party they deserved.
And the most important thing was the Skins wanted to end the season on a positive note by picking up a huge win over district leader Brownsville Veterans.
When all was said and done, Donna just wasn’t able to seal the deal as Brownsville Veterans left Bennie LaPrade Stadium on Thursday night with a 39-7 win.
Brownsville Veterans finished the regular season at 8-2 overall and 6-1 in 32-5A which led them to a share of the district title.
Abel Martinez got things rolling for the Chargers as he scored the first touchdown of the night on a 2-yard run which gave his team a 6-0 lead at the 8:46 mark of the first quarter.
Martinez helped the Chargers push their lead to 12-0 at the 4:34 mark of the first quarter as he took the ball from quarterback Gustavo Vasquez and sprinted down the left sideline 68-yards to the house.
On the night, Martinez totaled three touchdowns for the Chargers and his teammate Isaiah Solis threw for two of them.
Donna’s lone score came late in the fourth quarter on Edson Alvarado’s 18-yard run.
The Redskins end their season at 3-7 and 2-5 in district play.
