(DONNA) – Ask any volleyball coach that went against Donna High throughout the season and they will tell you that there’s one big thing they need to focus on; or should I say one big person they need to focus on……..Melanie Arenas.

Arenas most definitely was a woman amongst girls on the volleyball court for the Bravettes this season as she put up outlandish numbers on a nightly basis.

At the end of her stellar career, Arenas did something that will stand out at Donna High for a very long time which is break the school kills record with an eye gouging total of 921.

Along with breaking the school kills record, Arenas can add another huge accomplishment to already impressive resume which is that she was named the Co-MVP of 32-5A as the All-District list was released late last week.

Arenas had a little help from her friends all year long and as a result, six of them joined her on the All-District list.

Celeste Mata was named to the First Team while Ileane Gallegos and Nicole Rodriguez were Second Team selections.

The final three Bravettes players were Honorable Mentions selections as Kaylee Lopez, Yliana Beltran and Megan Garcia made the list.

“We are extremely proud of our 2016 Bravette Volleyball Team,” said head coach Cindy Viesca. “The girls worked very hard and competed well until the final match of the season.”

“I want to personally congratulate all of the girls that were selected to the All-District team.”
