Strong Defensive Presence Instrumental in Bravettes Win over La Joya

(DONNA) – There’s a saying in professional sports that “Defense Wins Championships.”

In Donna High’s case, their defense didn’t win them a championship on Tuesday night.

However, it did lead them to a big win over La Joya by a score of 39-34.

After giving up 13 points in the first quarter, Donna High’s defense really tightened up as they held the Lady Coyotes to a total of 11 points in the next two.

“I was very pleased with our defense tonight and it helped us preserve a win against a very physical team in La Joya,” said Bravettes head girls basketball coach Kevin Kromer. “We pressured them all night long and were able to come up with some big steals which were turned into points.”

“It was a great effort by our kids and I am proud of the way they played. We are a week away from district play and feel our defense is right where it needs to be. If we can cut down on our turnovers and can score some points, we are going to be a good little team.”

Donna High has one more non-district game and will head to PSJA North to take on the Lady Raiders this Friday night.
