(DONNA) – Entering the 2016 high school football season, the Donna Redskins knew that their offense was going to be very, very young.
After all, they lost a wealth of talent to graduation in 2015 and only had two clear cut returning players coming back on that side of the ball.
Because of that, the Redskins coaching staff knew they would have to rely on their defense due to the fact that they had five guys returning from the previous year.
All season long, the Redskins defense kept them in games and gave them an opportunity to win some of them as well.
Once the season ended, Donna High’s defense was definitely noticed by the rest of the coaches in 32-5A as they had six players make the All-District list when it was officially released last week.
Eric Ginez and Noel Perez were the leading award winners on the list as they were named to the first team. Ginez was a First Team Outside Linebacker while Perez was a First Team Safety.
Three of the Redskins made it to the second team and consisted of Cornerback Robert Aguilar, Defensive End Homer Webber and Inside Linebacker Jay P. Sandoval made the list.
EJ Alvarado was the final defensive player on the All-District list as was an Honorable Mention selection at Inside Linebacker.
Two other players received All-District honors as Akim Ramirez was a First Team pick at the kicker position while Matthew Molina was a Second Team Offensive Tackle.
