(MCALLEN) – As the season progresses, Donna High head boys basketball coach Manuel Epperson knows there is only one direction for his team to go.
“I can see the direction of this team is going up,” said Epperson. “As we are getting more games under our belts, the confidence level is improving and their overall play continues to get better.”
Epperson saw his team move in an upward direction as they went 1-2 over the weekend at the City of Palms Tournament.
The Redskins opened the tourney against Edinburg High and suffered a 54-34 loss.
But they were able to bounce back from that rough outing and were competitive in a close 52-49 loss to Brownsville Rivera.
Then Donna High finished the tournament on a very good note as they beat San Benito 58-48 on Friday.
“I was pleased with the way the kids ran our offense and they were very unselfish as well,” said Epperson. “We knocked down some shots and our ball movement was much better.”
“I am seeing the improvement in the boys and am very proud of the effort. Also I am pleased with Anthony Moreno’s overall play as he has really stepped up his game.”
The Redskins will prepare for a very stiff challenge this Tuesday as they will head to Edinburg to face Vela with game time set for 2:30 p.m.
