(DONNA) – Donna Bravettes Girls Basketball Player Miranda Sandoval has been named the Player of the Week for the week of December 12th through December 17th.
Sandoval played an instrumental role in her team’s commanding win over Edcouch-Elsa this past Friday night as she scored a season high 18 points.
Sandoval sat down with RedskinSports.us Sports Editor John Cannon for a question and answer session.
JC: Miranda. Congratulations on being named the Player of the Week. In Friday’s game, you had your best performance of the season by scoring 18 points in the win over Edcouch-Elsa. What was is about that specific game that made you have such a great outing?
MS: I think before the game, we got really motivated because it was against Edcouch-Elsa and it’s always been a good rivalry for both of us. So it made me really bring my game on and I went out there and played as hard as I could.
JC: Not only did you have a big game but your entire team had a great game by scoring 70-plus points in the win. When you saw the scoreboard at the end of it, were you shocked by the number?
MS: I was shocked. But at the same time, it was really good we accomplished that. We work really hard in practice and it really showed.
JC: Being a part of the Bravettes Varsity Basketball Team this year, what has it been like?
MS: I feel honored to be a part of it. As a sophomore, it’s great because I get to play with the upperclassmen and they truly do help out.
JC: Before a game, everyone has a little ritual they do to get pumped up. What do you like to do?
MS: I usually like to talk to my mom before a game. She is the one that can calm me down if I am getting nervous and tells me what I need to do. Also, I enjoy listening to music because it relaxes me.
JC: Is there a certain song or artist you listen to that gets you fired up?
JC: Is there a pre-game meal you like to eat?
MS: Usually I like to eat fruit.
JC: Do you have a favorite basketball player?
MS: It was Tim Duncan. But since he retired, I basically just cheer on the Spurs.
JC: When this season is over, what is the one goal you want to accomplish?
MS: I want to get better at ball handling and shooting the ball as well.
JC: Who would you say is the person you really look up to?
MS: I would have to say Melanie Arenas. I see that she works hard every day in both volleyball and basketball and that really pumps me up. It shows me that I can accomplish anything with hard work.
