(MCALLEN) – While most teams are taking the time off during the holiday break, the Donna Bravettes are back at work.
The Bravettes traveled to McAllen to compete in the Nikki Rowe Holiday Tournament on Wednesday and Thursday and were looking to stay active while facing some competition that would continue to prep them for district play.
Donna High took on the likes of Hidalgo, Corpus Christi Moody, McAllen High and McAllen Rowe over the two-day tournament and ended up going 2-2.
On day one, the Bravettes opened the tournament by securing a 51-44 win over Hidalgo. Melanie Arenas was the leading point producer as she scored 11 against the Lady Pirates.
Their second game was against Moody and they ended up suffering a 63-46 loss. Brianna Quesada was the star of the contest for Donna High as she finished the game with a team high 13 points.
Day two saw them facing two McAllen schools as they faced the Lady Bulldogs first and ended up suffering a 60-50 loss. Miranda Sandoval and Brianna Quesada led the charge for Donna High as they scored 16 and 13 points respectively.
In their final game of the tournament, Donna High ended it on a high note thanks to a 45-31 win over Rowe. Celeste Mata and Aileen Garza were the leading scorers by finishing with 10 points apiece.
The Bravettes will return to action on Tuesday, January 3rd and welcome in Brownsville Porter as district action resumes with game time set for 7:30 p.m.
