(RIO GRANDE CITY) – Donna High wrestler Esmeralda De Hoyos is definitely getting used to this winning thing.
De Hoyos went into the Rio Grande City Snakebite Invitational this past Saturday with one thing in mind and that was to bring home another gold medal.
Indeed, De Hoyos was able to do just that as she took first place in the 102-pound weight class thanks to a pin fall victory over Edinburg North’s Ruth Coutcher at the 4:21 mark.
With the win, De Hoyos improves her overall record to 14-2.
Two of her teammates had solid outings as well as Precious Hernandez advanced all the way to the consolation finals while Maida Ortiz competed in the third round of the consolation bracket.
Unfortunately, both of them fell short and ended their run in those specific rounds.
As a team, the Donna High girls wrestling team placed 9th overall with a total score of 44 points.
On the boys side, Donna High placed 22nd overall with 10 points and were led by Jaime Guzman and Jerry Escalante who both made a nice run in the consolation portion of the bracket.
