(DONNA) – On Friday night, the Donna High and Donna North Girls Basketball teams were ready to take their rivalry to the hardwood.
And while most teams would get amped up for a rivalry game, the Bravettes saw it as another district opponent.
“I feel that Donna North came into this game more focused on the rivalry than we were,” said Donna head girls coach Kevin Kromer. “Our girls knew that the importance of this game since it was another district opponent and seemed really focused on getting the job done and trying to add another win to their total.”
Looks like that notion worked out for the Bravettes as they indeed added another crucial district win to their total thanks to a 42-20 victory.
The Bravettes got some solid all-around production from quite a few girls and were led by Melanie Arenas who finished the night with 12 points.
“The kids did what they needed to tonight and I am pleased with the effort,” said Kromer. “We were without Brianna Quesada tonight who is our point guard and ended up moving some other girls around to fill that role.”
“It affected a little bit of our scoring output. But we were able to score enough points to win and that’s what matters.”
Donna High now moves to 4-1 in District 32-5A and will head to Brownsville to take on Pace this coming Tuesday.
