(BROWNSVILLE) — It was a very busy day for the Donna High Bravettes at the Brownsville Soccer Tournament.
But the Bravettes don’t mind staying busy; as long as it requires playing the beautiful game of soccer.
Donna High was going to the tournament to do nothing but take care of business and try to learn as much as they possibly could for the upcoming season.
The first team they took on was the Progreso Lady Red Ants. Bianca Sanchez opened up the scoring for the Bravettes which allowed them to take the 1-0 lead.
After Sanchez put her team on the scoreboard, Yesenia Compean came in and scored two goals which sealed the deal for the Bravettes.
Fabiola Gomez scored the final goal of the game and in the end Donna High defeated the Lady Red Ants 4-0.
It looked like the Bravettes were off to a strong start. But then they came across Los Fresnos. The Lady Falcons have won the past two Brownsville Soccer Tournaments and were there to defend their title.
The Lady Falcons took charge of the game and unfortunately, the Bravettes fell to the Lady Falcons 3-0.
The last game of the day for the Bravettes was against Brownsville Lopez. Last year, the Lady Lobos got second at the Brownsville ISD Tournament as they fell to Los Fresnos in penalty kicks.
This year, the Lady Lobos were coming back for that title and knew they needed to get past Donna High to make that happen.
The Bravettes put up a valiant effort and got on the scoreboard with a goal from Sanchez.
But it wasn’t enough to take the lead and in the end, Donna High fell to Lopez 2-1.
The Bravettes are looking forward to getting back on track on day two of the tournament as they will face Rio Hondo, Laredo LBJ and Edinburg Economedes.
