(EDCOUCH) – Literally, the Donna High Bravettes grabbed a much needed win on Friday night.
The Bravettes, who entered Friday night district contest against Edcouch-Elsa with a three-game losing streak, needed to find some way to get back into the win column.
Lucky for them, Donna High got that monkey off of their backs thanks to a 54-37 win over the Lady Jackets.
The Bravettes offense came out strong in the first quarter as they were able to produce 17 points and went into the second with a five-point lead.
They were able to continue to produce on offense the rest of the way as Donna High scored a total of 37 points in the next three quarters as opposed to 25 by Edcouch-Elsa which preserved the win for them.
“This was no doubt a much needed win for us tonight,” said Donna High head coach Kevin Kromer. “That Pace loss really hurt us and then we fell to Mercedes and Brownsville Vets as well.”
“Coming into this game, the girls knew what needed to be done and came out and executed well. We produced on the offensive side of the ball and our defense did a nice job of holding Edcouch-Elsa the rest of the way after that strong first quarter showing. This was a great win and I am pleased with the effort.”
Donna High, who improves to 5-4 with the win, was led by Miranda Sandoval and Celeste Mata who scored 16 and 13 points respectively.
The Bravettes now will set their sights on Brownsville Lopez as both teams will square off on Tuesday night.
