(WESLACO) — The Donna High Boys and Girls wrestling teams headed to Weslaco this past Saturday and wanted nothing more than to represent their school in a good way.
From the looks of it, both teams ended up doing just that as they had solid finishes at the Tomas Garces Tournament.
The Donna Girls finished in fourth overall with a total of 72 points and were led by Maida Ortiz who was their top finisher in the 138-pound weight class.
Ortiz advanced all the way to the championship finals in her respective weight division and faced off against Weslaco High’s Ashley Leos.
And even though Ortiz lost the match to Leos, she was able to place second overall and push her record to 6-5 overall.
Three other Bravette wrestlers placed in the top three as Esmeralda De Hoyos (102-pound), Bobbie Jo Vasquez (148-pound) and Precious Hernandez (215-pound) all took third place in their respective weight classes.
On the boys’ side, the Redskins finished in seventh place with a total score of 67. Eric Guzman led the charge for the Donna High boys team as he took second place thanks to advancing to the championship finals of the 285-pound weight class.
