(MERCEDES) — Last year, the Donna Bravettes soccer team had a very tough season.
In fact, the Bravettes only won one game and were looking forward to changing that this year.
On Tuesday night, Donna High started their new journey in 2017 as they took on the Mercedes Lady Tigers in their district opener.
Coming into the game, you could see that both teams wanted that first district win just as bad as the other.
But only one team could come out victorious in the end and the Bravettes knew that in order for them to stop the Lady Tigers, they had to revert to their defensive skills.
The first half of the game was a constant battle between both teams. The Bravettes came out hot and with just seven minutes remaining in the half, Bianca Sanchez scored a beautiful goal down the middle of the field and placed it in the bottom left corner of the goal to give her team a 1-0 lead.
The second half of the game belonged to the Bravettes as they maintained their defensive skills and their communication out on the field and as a result, led them to a 1-0 win.
“This win gives me a wonderful feeling,” said Bravettes head coach Francisco Faticati. “There’s a mixture of feelings because we came from a not so successful season last year to building something up this season. These girls are coming out and playing and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.”
“Today we had a lot of effort and we’re trying to go hard in every game and to fight for every play. We are trying to give it 100 percent all the time”.
The Bravettes now have a record of 1-0 in 32-5A and will set their sights on Edcouch-Elsa this Friday at Donna High School.
