(DONNA) — The Donna Redskins soccer team was looking forward to changing their luck from the last game.

Losing to Mercedes in penalty kicks on Tuesday night was the main thing that fired up the Redskins for Friday’s soccer game. Not to mention they were coming in with the desire to win in front of their home crowd against another district opponent Edcouch-Elsa.

The Redskins did not want to go through the same thing as the last game. So their offense started attacking the goal from the very beginning of the game.

Donna High had so many shots on goal. But for some reason, the shots did not want to go in!

But Angel Reyes was able to step up for his team as he was able to score the first goal for the Redskins in the last five minutes of the first half.

The second half of the game was once again dominated by the Redskins as they had impeccable communication, ball control, and weren’t hesitant on taking shots on goal.

Their defense did not want to fall behind in the final 40 minutes of play. So they shut down the Yellow Jackets to the amount of shots on goal that they took.

With the set of teamwork that was being shown out on the field from the Redskins, they put themselves up on the scoreboard once again thanks to Joel Hernandez.

It seemed as if they had their 2-0 victory sealed.

But Donna High committed a foul in their penalty box which granted the Yellow Jackets a penalty kick.

The Yellow Jackets took advantage of this opportunity by putting the ball behind the net to trim the Redskins lead in half.

But when all was said and done, Donna High was able to preserve the win to pick up their first district win.

“We just wanted to come back from last game’s scenario,” said Reyes. “The last game was bad for us because Joel and I were actually the ones that missed our penalty kicks.”

“Coming into this game, we had to redeem ourselves and that was exactly what we did by scoring the goals for our team.”

With the victory, the Redskins are now 1-1 in District 32-5A and will set their sights on their next opponent will be Brownville Lopez.
