(DONNA) — In boys’ soccer, when someone mentions the Brownsville Porter Cowboys, you automatically think of the team that was crowned the 2016 Class 5A State Champions.
So any team that faces the defending state champs would be scared or intimidated to face them.
But that wasn’t the case for Donna High as they weren’t about to let a state title intimidate them or get in their way of trying to pick up a win at home.
Coming into Friday night’s game, the Redskins knew that they were going to face a tough team. However, they were up for the challenge and wanted to obtain a win. Especially against Porter because it would prove to many that the Redskins are a force to be reckoned with.
Defensively, the Redskins were led by Jaasiel Martinez as he took charge on that side of the ball and led them towards the correct pathway. Martinez was able to communicate with his team and saved several plays made by the Cowboys.
When all was said and done, Donna High’s defense completely shutout the Cowboys on offense.
As for the Redskins, they looked strong on the offensive side of the ball by making the correct plays and their teamwork definitely showed out on the field.
But the Redskins needed to score if they wanted to win and that’s exactly what happened as Jose Rangel scored the two winning goals for his team which led them to the win.
The Redskins picked up their second district win of the season and now sit at 2-2 in 32-5A. They won’t have a lot of time to celebrate this win as Donna High will now have to prepare for a huge clash against Donna North on Tuesday night.
