(BROWNSVILLE) – If there’s one thing that Donna High head girls basketball coach Kevin Kromer can get out of his team’s season finale against Brownsville Veterans on Tuesday night, it’s the fact that they are preparing them for the postseason.
“Brownsville Vets is the top team in our district and like us, they are getting ready to start the playoffs,” said Kromer. “We have a big challenge on our hands in the first round and definitely want to be tested going into it.”
“What a better way to do that than to the face the district champs.”
The Bravettes put together a much better showing against Brownsville Vets this time around, even though they dropped the contest 66-40.
“We played much better this time around that the first time,” said Kromer. “In tonight’s game, we missed a lot of gimme shots and had two bad quarters that hurt us.”
“But we did play two good quarters and did some things that can be built on going into the playoffs.”
Donna High ends the season at 9-5 which sealed them the fourth spot in District 32-5A.
Next up for Donna High is a date with Laredo Cigarroa, the District 31-5A champions, in the Class 5A Bi-District round of the playoffs with the time, place and date to be determined.
“We know what we are up against in the postseason and it’s truly going to be a huge task,” said Kromer. “But in our last couple of games, we figured out what needs to be addressed and will work on that in preparation for Cigarroa.”
“We need to get out offense back on track and the girls need to get that mojo back as well. Our goal is to address those issues during our preparation time and to get ready for the next challenge.”
