(MCALLEN) – Ask anyone from across the Rio Grande Valley who is one of the premiere girls’ tennis players is and they will all pretty much give you the same answer; Mercedes senior Crystal Werbiski.
Werbiski has dominated the scene for quite some time now and has pretty much beaten each and every opponent she has faced.
Donna High’s Jennifer Garcia has had Werbiski’s number each and every time they have faced each other and on Saturday, she did that very same thing again.
Garcia defeated Werbiski in the finals of the girls’ singles division at the McHi Invitational this past weekend by scores of 6-4 and 6-0.
“Jennifer has so much confidence each and every time she plays Crystal,” said Donna High head tennis coach Ramiro Solis. “Ever since they were little, Jennifer has been able to beat her and she was able to do that once again on Saturday.”
Garcia’s teammates also had a solid tournament as Diana Martinez and Angel Rodriguez took third in mixed doubles while some other players ended up competing in the consolation finals.
“Overall, it was a great tournament for us and the kids played well,” said Solis.
