(BROWNSVILLE) – Going into this weekend’s Brownsville ISD Softball Tournament, there was one big thing that Donna High softball coach Adrian Lopez was hoping to get out of his team.
“I was looking for consistency in our play, “said Lopez.
The Bravettes played in three games and ended up losing to Hidalgo (5-1) and Weslaco East (8-0) and then tied Mission High by a score of 3-3.
“With district play right around the corner, we need to be consistent and can’t have one good game and then one bad game,” said Lopez. “In our first game against Hidalgo, we made too many mistakes and left runners in scoring position three times.”
“Against Mission, we played tough and actually had a 3-2 lead. But we made an error which enabled them to score a run and tie the game at three. Since it was a time limit game, it ended in a tie. Against Weslaco East, we were down 3-0 and stayed with them for a little while. But then we had a bad inning in the fifth and gave up five runs which sealed the deal.”
Overall, Donna High went 5-3-1 in non-district play and will begin their district campaign on Tuesday night against Mercedes with game time set for 7 p.m.
“There are some things that need to cleaned up before Tuesday night and we will focus on then over the next couple of days. District play starts for us on Tuesday night and we need to fix things really fast.”
