(EDCOUCH) – On Tuesday night, the Donna Redskins opened the second half of district play with a 3-1 win over Mercedes.

Going into Friday’s clash with Edcouch-Elsa, the Redskins wanted to keep that momentum going.

That momentum translated to the soccer field as the Redskins had five different players score all of their goals and walked out of Benny Layton Memorial Stadium with a 5-0 shutout win.

The Redskins offense got jump started early and scored their first goal within the first five minutes thanks to Robert Juarez.

Two minutes later, Angel Ramirez received an assist from the ride side of the field and decided to go for the shot which landed behind the net to give Donna High a 2-0 lead.

The ‘Skins tacked on one more goal with just five minutes left in the first half as Jorge Salinas scored their third goal of the night on a penalty kick.

During the start of the second half of the game, the Yellow Jackets offense started pressuring a lot more as they tried to get back into the contest.

And even though the Jackets looked more aggressive, the Redskins defense stayed strong and so did their goalie.

Edcouch-Elsa got a free kick opportunity within the Redskins red zone as they were hoping to score their first goal of the night.

But the goalie blocked that shot not only once, nor twice, but three times to keep the game at 3-0.

After that incredible play, Donna High went on to score their fourth goal of the night. Jose Rangel received an assist from the ride side of the field with a header and placed the ball behind the net to give the Redskins a 4-0 lead.

The last goal of the night would come from Leo Garcia’s shot on goal which gave Donna High their fifth and final goal of the evening.

Donna High has now won two straight games and moves over .500 as they hold a 5-4 record in District 32-5A.

Their next opponent will be Brownsville Lopez as both teams will clash on Tuesday night with game time set for 5:30 p.m. .
