(LAREDO) – In last year’s Border Olympics Tennis Tournament, Donna High’s Jennifer Garcia made it all the way to the finals in the girls’ singles division.
Unfortunately, she suffered from cramps and lost the final match in three tough sets.
Coming into this year’s tournament, Garcia was determined to stop at nothing to get that title that she so deserved.
During the tournament, Garcia competed against some stiff competition and all of them were opponents she had never faced before.
But that didn’t stop her from her goal as she dominated in each and every match and eventually got back to the finals against PSJA Memorial’s Priscilla Morales.
Garcia played lights out in the finals and ended up defeating Morales 6-1 and 6-0 which won her the title she had wanted in quite some time.
“Jennifer came into this tournament determined to dominate and that’s exactly what she did,” said Donna High head tennis coach Ramiro Solis. “She won the title and defeated a very good opponent in Morales.”
“It was good to see two girls from the Valley compete in the finals and that says a lot about the players we have down here.”
Three other Donna High tennis players fared well at the tournament as Diana Martinez and Angel Rodriguez and Diana Martinez took third place in the mixed doubles division while Josue Soto made it all the way to the consolation singles in boys’ singles.
