(DONNA) – After Tuesday’s district opening loss to Mercedes, Donna High head softball coach Adrian Lopez got his girls right back to work on Wednesday while telling them to do one very important thing.
“Forget about Tuesday night’s game. We have to move forward and prepare for Pace,” said Lopez. “Let’s get back to work and do whatever we can to pick up a win.”
And on Friday night, that’s exactly what they did as the Bravettes overcame a late deficit in the bottom of the seventh and got two huge runs which constituted in an 8-7 thrilling win over Brownsville Pace.
With Pace retaking the lead 7-6 after a see-saw battle throughout the entire contest, the Bravettes tied the game at seven and eventually scored the winning run thanks to Megan Garcia scoring on an RBI by Brianna Quesada.
“It was good to see the girls battle back from adversity and get the win in the process,” said Lopez. “We had our seniors step up after that Edcouch game and they provided the leadership we needed in order to get the girls refocused.”
Donna High improves to 1-1 in District 32-5A and will get ready to face Brownsville Lopez on Tuesday with the first pitch set for 7 p.m.
“There’s no doubt our district is really tough and we will be challenged every single night,” said Lopez. “And Tuesday night, we will face another stiff one in Lopez who has been playing really well.”
“Hopefully we can feed off of our last win and try and pull another one out on Tuesday.”
