(PHARR) – With the way his team played on Thursday, Donna High head baseball coach Joey Ramirez wasn’t a very happy camper.
After all, his Redskins lost two games to PSJA High (10-0) and Brownsville Lopez (10-4) to start 0-2 in pool play at the Mike Rodriguez Tournament which was held at PSJA High.
But on Friday, Donna High was able to turn Ramirez’s frown upside down as they defeated PSJA Southwest 15-0 and Brownsville Rivera 10-0 to end up 2-2 overall.
“On Thursday, we struggled in all phases of the game,” said Ramirez. “We made some crucial errors and couldn’t seem to hit the ball.”
“So I decided to change the line-up a bit on Friday and it worked to our benefit. Also we came in here better prepared and we were able to solidify a few positions on the field as well. It was a much better performance and I was pleased with the effort.”
The Redskins will now play McAllen Rowe tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the consolation portion of the tournament and Ramirez hopes his team can end things on a positive note.
“Winning those two games on Friday was a huge momentum boost for us and hopefully we can pick up another one on Saturday.”
