(DONNA) – The weather finally cooperated for both Donna North and Donna High.
After having to wait three days to try and play due to the inclement weather, both teams met on the diamond Monday night.
And from the looks of it, the wait was well worth it for the Bravettes as they got some timely hits and took advantage of opportunities which led to a 17-2 win over the Lady Chiefs.
“I was a little worried about how the kids would react after having to wait out the bad weather,” said Donna High head coach Adrian Lopez. “We were supposed to play Friday night and got rained out. Then Saturday was bad and Sunday as well.”
“Finally today we got a break and after working tirelessly on the field, we got the game in and the girls responded really well. We took care of business tonight and now improve to 2-2 in district play.”
The Bravettes took a 4-0 lead as they scored on three errors committed by Donna North (0-4) and on an RBI-double by Anaisa Orozco.
Donna North got a run back in the top of the second inning thanks to an RBI-single by Britney Luna.
But Donna High answered right back in the bottom half of the inning by piling on six runs to push their lead to 10-1.
Alyssa Sanchez’s sacrifice-RBI brought in Sarah Sanchez as the Lady Chiefs scored their second run of the night in the top of the third inning.
Donna High put the nail in the coffin in the bottom of the third as they scored seven runs to seal the deal.
Next up for the Bravettes is Brownsville Veterans as they will face each other tomorrow night with game time set for 7 p.m.
