(BROWNSVILLE) – The Donna Redskins soccer team knew that going into Monday’s final district game against Brownsville Veterans that their playoff chances were very slim.
But they were going to do whatever it took in order to try and keep their hopes alive and try to get a little help also.
If the Redskins were going to get into the playoffs, they had to secure a win over Vets and needed Pace and Donna North to lose.
Against the Chargers, the Redskins took a 1-0 lead in the first half and held onto that lead throughout the majority of it.
Brownsville Veterans was able to tie the match as they scored with nine minutes left in the half.
The Chargers got hot in the second half as they scored two goals to take a commanding 3-1 lead.
Donna High knew they needed to fight back and did just that by punching in a goal with eight minutes left in the game to cut the lead to one.
However, that would be the final goal scored on the day as they dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 loss.
The Redskins season ends at 6-8 and with 17 total points.
