(DONNA) – Coming into the 2016-17 basketball season, Donna High head coach Manuel Epperson knew that his team was going to be very young this year as the team was loaded with underclassmen.
On that note, Epperson needed someone to step up and be the leader of the team. So he decided to turn to Anthony Moreno who was one of the returners for the Redskins.
The junior indeed filled that role and led by example on both sides of the ball as well. Moreno led the Redskins in scoring as he averaged 14 points per game and was a menace on the defensive side too.
Thanks to his stellar play, Moreno was rewarded for his efforts by being named to the All-Defensive Team and was a First Team Selection as well on the All-District list.
Four of his teammates joined him on the list as Joel Ramirez was a Second Team selection while Eric Garza, Derik Medrano and Carlos Mascorro were Honorable Mention picks.
