Arenas Fulfills Lifelong Dream; Signs LOI to Play Volleyball at Laredo Community College

(DONNA) – Ever since she started playing volleyball, Melanie Arenas knew that she wanted to continue with it for as long as she could.

On Wednesday afternoon, Arenas will get the opportunity continue to do what she loves so much as the senior officially signed her letter of intent to play volleyball at Laredo Community College in front of her classmates, family, friends and coaches at the Donna High School gymnasium.

“It’s been an honor to be able to play volleyball for quite some time now and being able to continue my dream in college is something I have really wanted to do,” said Arenas. “I wanted this so bad and fortunately, Laredo Community College gave me the opportunity to do that.”

“I am so happy right now and can’t wait to get started.”

The outside hitter for the Bravettes definitely left her mark as she won multiple accolades and helped lead her team to multiple playoff appearances as well.

But her biggest accomplishment was when she broke the all-time kills record at Donna High by amassing a total of 921 during her high school career.

Donna High head volleyball coach Cindy Viesca feels that Laredo Community College is getting a very special player in Melanie.

“Melanie is a great athlete and has really come a long way,” said Viesca. “She has learned a lot of discipline and determination and I think Laredo Community College is going to get a good outside hitter.”

“She has a lot more potential coming and it will be a good shot for her at that school.”
