Player of the Week: Jonathan Del Bosque

(DONNA) – Donna High golfer Jonathan Del Bosque has been selected as the Player of the Week for the week of April 10th through April 14th.

Del Bosque etched his name in the record books last week as he became the first Redskins golfer in the last 10 years to qualify for the regional tournament thanks to his impressive finish at the District 32-5A Tournament.

Del Bosque sat down with Sports Editor John Cannon for a question and answer session.

JC: Congratulations on being named the Player of the Week. Everyone says that the course at River Bend in Brownsville is one of the toughest in the Valley. What makes it so tough?

JDB: There are a lot of doglegs and it goes a hard right or a hard left. Also there are a bunch of trees and the greens are slopes which makes it harder to read it. It’s a very hard course.

JC: Do you feel you were able to adapt to it pretty well?

JDB: Yes I think I did. I had an idea of where the flag was and where to hit it since I played there in the pre-regional tournament.

JC: When the district tournament was all said and done, you finished in eighth overall and ended up qualifying. What was going through your mind when you qualified?

JDB: I was very surprised and was shocked that I made it to regionals.

JC: It’s been 10 years since a Donna Redskin golfer qualified for regionals. How does it make you feel now that you are a part of school history?

JDB: It’s an honor to be on that list and to be one of the few to make it from Donna High to regionals. It’s an amazing feeling.

JC: Going into regionals, what are some things you want to improve on?

JDB: I really need to improve on my short game and working to get the ball closer to the hole while trying to get an easy one putt. And focus on my game and not worry about what the others are doing. Basically I need to just play the course.

JC: Do you feel any pressure going into regionals knowing that you are only a sophomore and that this is your first trip there?

JDB: Not really. I am just going in there and plan on playing my game.

JC: Do you have a favorite professional golfer?

JDB: I really like Jordan Spieth.

JC: Have you ever hit a hole-in-one?

JDB: No I have not.

JC: Of all the courses you have played at, which is your favorite?

JDB: I would say Monte Cristo because I played my first tournament there and was able to go with my friends.

JC: What has been your most memorable moment in Golf?

JDB: When I heard I qualified for regionals and when we placed third as a team in the boys’s division.
