(DONNA) – Entering the final home game of their high school careers, the seniors for Donna’s softball team wanted to end it on a high note.
A come from behind win over Brownsville Porter is definitely a great way to do just that.
Down 5-0 early on, the Bravettes slowly chipped away and tied the game in the fifth inning.
Then they got their offense rolling in the sixth by adding six runs to their cause and as a result, walked out of Bravette Field with an impressive 14-8 win on Friday night.
“It was great night all together,” said Donna High head softball coach Adrian Lopez. “We had parents’ night and also honored our seniors for everything they had done as a part of our program.”
“So we talked about leaving everything out on the field tonight and trying to end the season on a positive note. Securing a come from behind win is definitely a great way to do just that. I am so proud of these kids and now we will head into the off-season on a positive note thanks to the victory.”
Lopez said that the future definitely looks bright for the Donna High softball program as he has quite a few sophomores and juniors returning to the varsity team and a ton of talent moving up in the lower levels as well.
“We are fortunate to have a big group coming back next year and have a ton of younger kids that look very promising moving up at the lower levels as well,” said Lopez. “We are going to try to find some pitchers for the varsity level and look to get them a ton of work over the off-season. Plus we will work on a few other things to polish up our defense and our bats as well.”
“I am excited for the future of this program and we are going to be making some noise sooner than later.”
