Player of the Week: Cosme Ibarra

(DONNA) – Donna High Track and Field athlete Cosme Ibarra has been selected as the Player of the Week for the week of April 17th through April 21st.

Ibarra made his impact known at the Area Meet last week as he placed second in the 400-Meter Dash with a time of 50.45.

Thanks to his second place finish, Ibarra will represent the Redskins Track and Field Team at the Regional Meet this coming weekend in San Antonio.

Ibarra sat with Sports Editor John Cannon for a question and answer session.

JC: Congratulations on becoming the Player of the Week. What was your goal in the beginning of the Track and Field season?

CI: My goal has always been to make it to State and advancing to regionals is one step towards it.

JC: When you realized you advanced to regionals, what went through your mind?

CI: I was just happy that I made it. But I also knew that it was going to get tougher and I needed to continue to work hard.

JC: Going into regionals, what time do you want to hit in the 400?

CI: I want to break a time of 50 if possible.

JC: I understand you participate in soccer and Cross-Country along with Track. Of those three, which is your favorite?

CI: I have to say soccer because I really love the sport.

JC: Let’s get to know you on a personal level. What do you do in your spare time?

CI: I am at home or visiting my grandparents.

JC: Who is your favorite professional athlete?

CI: In soccer, it’s Lionel Messi and in Track I like Usain Bolt.

JC: Who would you say has been the one person in Track to push you the hardest?

CI: I would say Coach Infante because he is always pushing me the hardest and seems to get the best out of me.

JC: Who has been your biggest supporter through all of your sports?

CI: I would say my mom and my girlfriend. They are the only ones that always encourage me whether I win or lose.
