(DONNA) – With the success the Donna High baseball team, the coaches in District 32-5A made sure to reward them for their historical season.
Six members of the team made the All-District list when it was officially released on Monday.
Jeremy Ramirez highlighted the Redskins picks as he was named the Offensive Player of the Year for 32-5A. The senior finished on a good note by hitting .405 while adding eight doubles and a triple to his impressive resume.
“Jeremy is a very talented player and has put a lot of work into the sport,” said Donna High head coach Joey Ramirez. “All of that hard was evident when he played the game and I have to say I am a proud father and a proud coach.”
Ramirez was joined by Tony Hernandez who also gained high recognition as a First Team Pitcher and Forrest Jones who made the list as an Honorable Mention Pitcher and as a First Baseman.
Joey Zuniga made it as an Honorable Mention Second Baseman while his teammate Leo Bocanegra was picked as an Honorable Mention Shortstop.
The final Redskins player to receive recognition was Anthony Compean who made the All-District as a Second Team Outfielder.
The Redskins had a season for the ages as the clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2003 and Ramirez feels these postseason accolades puts a stamp on a magical season.
“To see these kids get rewarded for their efforts on the field is definitely an honor,” said Ramirez. “They had a goal set in mind and it was to finally kick that playoff door down.”
“They ended up getting into the playoffs and now the kids are gaining respect by being named to the All-District team. All of their efforts on the field were noticed and I am so proud of them.”
