(DONNA) – In their first week of practice, Donna High Head Volleyball Coach was pleased with the effort she saw from her girls.
“We had a good week of practice and I was happy with what I saw,” said Viesca. “Hopefully we can carry over our solid practice play into today’s scrimmages.”
The Bravettes faced some solid competition on Friday morning as they took on Brownsville Rivera, Economedes, Edcouch-Elsa and San Benito in their first live scrimmage.
In their first match of the day, they took on Economedes and it took a little while for Donna High to get going.
“We started off cold today,” said Viesca. “The new girls on the varsity team took a little while to get going due to the fact that playing at this level was something new to them.”
But once the new Bravettes settled in, they started playing together as a team and did some good things that caught Viesca’s eye.
“Once the new girls settled down, they started playing well and we were able to get things going,” said Viesca. “They were able to play to the level of our returning players and I started to see some solid play out of them on both sides of the ball.”
Once the scrimmage was over, Viesca said there were still a few things they need to work on prior to the start of the regular season.
“We need to work on our team chemistry a little more and also need to work on getting some other girls in the line-up,” said Viesca. “Lucky for us, we have another scrimmage on Saturday and practice on Monday to work on those things.”
“Overall, I was pleased with the girls play and feel we are right about where we need to be.”
