(PHARR) – If the last three matches are any indication as to how the Donna High Tennis Team will perform this season, then they might want to put the teams in District 32-5A on notice.
On Tuesday, Donna High’s boys and girls once again rose to the occasion and ended up defeating PSJA Southwest by a score of 14-5.
Senior Jennifer Garcia continued her dominance in both singles and doubles competition by cruising to multiple shut out 6-0 wins.
Garcia’s partner Nayeli Belmares also helped the girls’ side in a big way as she produced a 6-3, 6-2 win in singles play.
Speaking of the girls’ side, the Bravettes play was so impressive that they didn’t drop a single set against PSJA Southwest.
Angel Rodriguez and Arnold Sauceda led the boys side while making some serious noise by pulling of a 6-1, 7-5 upset of Southwest’s number one doubles team.
Rodriguez rode that momentum into singles play and once again pulled off an upset by beating Javelinas number one singles player Jeremy Cavazos by scores of 4-6, 6-1 and 10-5.
One more boys’ team stepped up their game on Tuesday evening as sophomores Armando Camarillo and Joe Alvarado won their doubles match 6-3 and 6-4. Camarillo racked up some more points for his team after securing an 8-5 win in singles competition.
Donna High secured their third straight win and Solis continues to be impressed with how his team is progressing match-to-match.
“Each match is tough, but our kids are getting better and better,” said Solis. “They are gaining confidence and experience as the season progresses and I am very proud of their hard work.”
“The results have been impressive and we have to continue to grind and improve.”
